
Stingrays Welcome Ricci and Watson to Camp

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that forward Rob Ricci has been assigned to the team by the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. The Stingrays also announced that forward Cam Watson has been added to the training camp roster.
Ricci, 25, returns to the Stingrays after finishing 11th among ECHL rookies last season with 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points. The Brampton, ON native was one of only two Stingrays skaters to compete in all 72 regular season games during the 2009-10 campaign. During the 2008-09 ECHL Playoffs, Ricci dressed for seven games and netted one goal as the Stingrays captured their ECHL-record third Kelly Cup title.
Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-9, 165-pound Ricci skated for three seasons at Merrimack College and was a teammate of current Stingrays defenseman Grant Farrell. While with the Warriors, Ricci scored 83 points (34g, 49a) in 99 games. Before moving to the NCAA, Ricci spent two years with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and a full season with the Milton Merchants of the OPJHL.
Watson, 24, appeared in one game last season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL earning no points after completing his senior season at Western Michigan University. While with the Broncos, the Cambridge, ON native netted 21 goals and 20 assists for 41 points in 123 games.
The Stingrays drop the puck on their 18th season of hockey in the Low Country on Friday, October 22 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:35 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Opening Weekend is set for Friday, November 5, Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7 against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum.
