South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Charlotte, NC - Chris Chaput scored the lone goal for the South Carolina Stingrays as they traveled to the Charlotte Bobcats Arena for the second game of a two game series. Unfortunately the goal was not enough as the Rays fell to the Checkers 5-1.
"I thought we had some good offensive pressure early," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "But it was the special teams that killed us tonight."
The Checkers struck first in the first period when Mark Lee got his 11th goal of the season. The second period however, featured more offensive fireworks. The Checkers got three power play goals to take a 4-0 lead in the period. It started with Mike Bayrack getting a 5 on 3 goal at 2:48 followed by him getting another 5 on 3 goal at 12:42. Chris Capraro would get a power play goal of his own at 16:27, his team leading 17th goal of the season. Chaput put the Rays on the board in the final minute of the period, at 19:21 from Sean Collins and newcomer Rory Rawlyk. For Chaput it was his 15th goal of the season.
In the third period Ryan Gibbons would get the only goal of the period, his first of the season, at 8:01. That would make the score 5-1, the eventual final.
The winning goaltender was Chris Holt who stopped 40 of 41 shots. The losing goaltender was Josh Johnson who stopped 22 of 27 shots. The Rays went one for six on the power play, while killing off six of the nine short handed situations hey faced.
The Rays are back in action Saturday night at a special time for Faith and Fun night. Come join the Stingrays as they take on the number one team in the ECHL the Texas Wildcatters and stay to watch the Christian Rock group Sonic Flood. Game time will be at 5:05 P.M.
