South Carolina Stingrays News Release
The South Carolina Stingrays are proud to inform the Charleston community about the four upcoming fundraisers for the remainder of the 2007-2008 hockey season!
February 16th will be dedicated to the Jenkins Institute for Children. The Jenkins Institute was founded by Reverend Daniel Joseph Jenkins on December 16th, 1891. The Institute is a non-profit corporation that specializes in residential group care programs in a group setting whose primary need is physical and emotional nurture. In order to further support the Jenkins Institute, the South Carolina Stingrays players will be clearing brush in front of the building on Tuesday February 12th to make room for a botanical garden and recreation center. The money raised for the orphanage on February 16th will go towards the construction of the recreation center. Fans can purchase tickets to the game by calling 98x or The Bridge with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Jenkins Institute.
Pink in the Rink will be held on Saturday March 1st at 7:05. This is a very special night dedicated to women and the fight against cancer. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. This will be a very fun night and a great night to hangout with the girls! There will be a number of special vendors at the game, including the American Cancer Society and the Look Good Feel Better Program. In order to help us raise funds for the American Cancer Society the South Carolina Stingrays are selling Pink Packs for $30 which includes a ticket to the game, an exclusive pink t-shirt and admission to our Hockey 101. The Hockey 101 is a puck handling demonstration given by the Stingrays player at 4:00pm the day of the game. The Pink Packs will be sold through the Stingrays office as well as at Stingrays games on February 24th, 26th and 29th and $5 of every pack sold will go back to ACS. Also, local Relay for Life teams are currently selling tickets for $12 with $4 of every ticket going back to ACS.
The South Carolina Stingrays players will be wearing special pink jerseys for the game that evening that will be auctioned off in a silent auction during the game. In order to further help raise money at the event, a portion of the jersey proceeds will also go to the ACS and the Relay for Life team that sold the most tickets for the event and raised the most money.
Following Pink in the Rink will be the Stingray's Salute to Heroes Night on March 2nd. Tickets for this game will be sold at Exclusively Bimmers in Mount Pleasant, SC for $10 with 100% of the money raised going back to the Equipping Our Heroes Foundation. The Equipping Our Heroes Foundation's goal is to "Equip firefighting heroes with lifesaving equipment and tools, free of charge as quickly as money is supplied through fundraising." Before the game on March 2nd fans can tour fire trucks which will be parked outside the coliseum and visit with some of the brave firefighters from the Charleston Community.
On Saturday March 15th the Stingray's will be "Making Noise for Girls and Boys" with the Children's Miracle Network Night. Companies such as Wal-Mart, Kraft , Keebler, Coco Cola, Pepsi and Frito Lay have all teamed up to sponsor a special Children's Miracle Network jersey that the players will be playing in during the game. During the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off in a Raffle Auction. The Wal-Mart store across from the Tanger Outlets will be selling the tickets prior to the event for $10 with 100% of all the proceeds going to the Children's Miracle Network. In addition to sponsoring a portion of the game night jersey, Kraft is also donating 5,000 boxes of Kraft macaroni and cheese to the Stingrays to give out to fans before the game. The fans will be asked to shake the boxes during the game to cheer on the Stingrays and to "Make Noise for the Girls and Boys" of the Children's Miracle Network. After the game the LowCountry Food Bank will be in attendance to collect the boxes of macaroni and cheese that fans would like to donate.
For information on any of these upcoming fundraisers please call the Stingrays office at (843) 744-2248. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you at the game! Go Rays!
