South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Hockey players on the ball field is what fans got Tuesday Night as the Stingrays took over Joe Riley Stadium for Stingrays Night at the Joe.
The evening started with the first pitch of the game thrown by Stingray players Trevor Johnson, Robin Gomez, Matt Reid and Mike Jickling. Cool Ray was there to help get the crowd ready for some hockey and the Riverdogs sported Stingrays inspired jerseys. There was plenty of between-inning entertainment to make fans believe the season wasn't quite over.
Captain Trevor Johnson and left wing Robin Gomez donned sumo wrestling gear and entertained the crowd with three rounds of "fighting." The "Big Fat Goalie" competition also made fans believe they were back at the Coliseum cheering for their Rays!
The RiverDogs completed the evening with a 2-1 win over the Columbus Catfish in extra innings, increasing their record to 24-15.
Stingrays Lunchbox
Be on the lookout this summer for the Stingrays at your office for lunch!
This summer, the Rays will be at a different local business from 11am-1pm on Fridays to promote all things Stingrays!
Throughout the summer, the Stingrays will be contacting various businesses to see who would be interested in having the Rays visit for lunch. We would also like to encourage our season ticket holders to suggest places for us to go, or invite us to come to your business!
Be on the lookout for where we'll be next!
See you for lunch!
Kelly Cup Finals
The Trenton Titans have jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the Kelly Cup Finals. Trenton, in search of its first ECHL Championship, swept the first two games of a seven game set in Estero, Florida. The series now moves to New Jersey, where the Titans will attempt to close out the Everblades on home ice.
Trenton shocked the Everblades in the Game One of the finals in front of 7,400 Florida fans with a convincing 7-0 victory. Bryce Cockburn and Brent Robinson each scored a pair of goals for the Titans in the win, while goaltender Andrew Allen turned aside 38 shots for the shut out.
In Game Two on Sunday Night, Florida grabbed its first lead of the series on a Brad Church goal in the second, but third period tallies by Paul Brown and Scott Bertoli helped the Titans grab the series lead.
Trenton has not advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals since losing to the Stingrays in 2001. In that series, the Rays won the first two games in Trenton and closed out the series in five games.
Florida is in the Finals for the second straight year. Last season, the Blades dropped the first two games of the Kelly Cup Finals on home ice to the Idaho Steelheads and could not recover. They eventually lost in five games.
