Kelly Cup Final Action

Florida Everblades vs. Trenton Titans – Trenton leads 2-0

Game One

The normally hostile environs of the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida were silenced quickly in Game One of the Kelly Cup Final Saturday night, as the Trenton Titans scored five times in a wild first period en route to a 7-0 win over the Florida Everblades.

Bryce Cockburn opened the scoring just 2:13 into the game, and the Titans never looked back. Rick Kowalsky notched a power play marker at the 6:00 mark, just 17 seconds after Kris Vernarsky was whistled for goaltender interference to make it 2-0 Trenton. Paul Brown, Cockburn, and Scott Bertoli would make it a 5-0 game by the close of opening frame.

In the second period, Bertoli almost made it 6-0 at 3:52 but missed a penalty shot attempt. Instead Brent Robinson would score once in the second and once in the third period to close out the seven-goal outburst from the Titans and cap the victory.

Trenton goaltender Andrew Allen stopped 38 shots and was solid if not spectacular all game to register his second straight shutout. Everblades netminder Tyler MacKay was pulled after allowing three goals on just five shots, with rookie Craig Kowalski mopping up with 21 saves over 47:46 of action.

Game Two

Looking to avoid sliding into an 0-2 hole before taking to the road, the Everblades knew they had to come out strong in Game Two.

After battling through a scoreless first period, Florida finally broke through Fort Allen with their first goal of the series at 10:59 from Brad Church. Reggie Berg and Shane Hnidy assisted on the goal, bringing 7,000+ fans to their feet. But the way the post-season has gone for Trenton this year, they had the Everblades right where they wanted them.

Coming from behind as they have in previous series this playoffs, the Titans registered goals from Paul Brown and Scott Bertoli to come back and capture a 2-1 win. Former Lynx Steve Munn assisted on Brown's goal at 1:49 to tie the game.

Florida would pull Tyler MacKay (28 saves) in the waning moments, but failed to even the score. Allen again turned in a winning performance for Trenton with 39 saves.

Game Three will see the scene shift to New Jersey for a 7:30 pm faceoff on Friday night.
