SECOND SEASON SUB-PLOTS

The Stingrays battle the Kalamazoo Wings in Game Five of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference Semifinals tonight, Saturday, April 21 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays defeated the Wings 4-1 in Game Four last night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Forward Chris Higgins scored a goal and two assists and goaltender Daren Machesney made 32 saves. The Stingrays hold a 17-14 record when facing elimination. The Stingrays reached the Eastern Conference Semifinals by defeating the Gwinnett Gladiators in the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals 3-1. The Wings advanced to the second round by moving past the Wheeling Nailers 3-1. The Wings reached the Kelly Cup Finals last season against the Alaska Aces, falling in the best-of-seven series 4-1. The Stingrays finished the 2011-12 regular season fourth in the South Division and seventh in the Eastern Conference with a record of 37-28-4-3 (81 pts). The Wings ended the regular season first in the North Division and third in the Eastern Conference with a 38-26-2-6 (84 pts) record. In four games against the Wings this season, the Stingrays went 2-2-0-0.

The Stingrays are 7-5-0-0 against the Wings all-time. This series marks the first time the Stingrays and Wings have met in the postseason. The Stingrays enter the playoffs for the 18th time in 19 seasons. Their 18 playoff appearances are the most ever in the ECHL. The Stingrays are tied for first in the ECHL with three Kelly Cup championships (1997, 2001, 2009) (Hampton Roads Admirals (1991, 1992, 1998) The Stingrays lead the ECHL with 156 postseason games played, 84 playoff wins, most home playoff wins (53), and most playoff wins in one year (16, 2009).
