Alaska Aces News Release
Steve Ward's power play goal with 5:52 remaining in the game spurred the Alaska Aces to a 4-2 win over the Stockton Thunder on Friday night at Stockton Arena in Game 4 of their Western Conference Semifinals series. The Aces overcame two deficits in the come-from-behind win and now have a 3-1 series lead in the best-of-seven series. The Aces have a chance to win the series and advance to the Western Conference Finals on Saturday. The Western Conference Semifinals series remains in California for one final on Saturday night at Stockton Arena at 6:30pm AKT. The Thunder opened the scoring after a defensive zone turnover by Alaska at 7:32 of the period. Chris D'Alvise poked a puck behind Gerald Coleman to give Stockton a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the series. The Thunder outshot the Aces 12-10 in the opening period, and took a lead into the intermission break.
The Aces tied the score early in the second period as Tyson Marsh sent a shot from the point that skipped past Olivier Roy at 1:18 to even the score 1-1. Stockton reclaimed the lead on a power play at 7:13 on Gabriel Levesque's first career playoff goal. With time winding down in the second, the Aces again tied the game. Nick Mazzolini dropped off a pass fro Ryan Cruthers as he was cutting behind the net. Roy followed Mazzolini, getting fooled on the play, and Cruthers slammed home the game-tying goal at 18:16 for his second strike in as many games. The Aces outshot the Thunder 12-6 in the middle period.
The Aces took their first lead of the night on a late power play when Steve Ward snuck in to score off a rebound from the end boards at 14:08. Alaska added an empty net goal at 19:57 from Nick Mazzolini to finish off the scoring.
Gerald Coleman (3-1) earned the win, making 19 saves on 21 shots. Olivier Roy (4-3) suffered the loss, making 26 saves on 29 shots. The Aces went 1-4 on the power play, while the Thunder went 1-2. The Aces outshot the Thunder 30-21 in the game.
