
Wings Take Series with Victory at the Coliseum

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (4-5) fell to the Kalamazoo Wings (7-2) 5-1 in Game Five of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night. With the victory, the Wings take the best-of-seven series 4-1.
Stingrays defenseman Brett Flemming opening the scoring on the power play at 10:13 of the first period firing a wrist shot past the glove of Wings goaltender Riley Gill (W, 31 saves on 32 shots). Forward Patrick Cullen and defenseman Johann Kroll earned assists. The Wings responded on the man advantage with a tally from forward Trent Daavettila at 19:18 tapping a rebound under Stingrays netminder Daren Machesney (L, 27 saves on 32 shots) from forwards Darryl Bootland and Dwight Helminen.
The Wings took the lead 1:07 into the second period on the power play off a drive from defenseman Sam Ftorek. Daavettila and Helminen added assists. Ftorek made it 3-1 with the Wings' third power-play goal at 18:05 from defenseman Elgin Reid and Helminen.
The Wings added two more goals in the third period to seal the victory. Forward Justin Taylor scored his third goal of the playoffs on the power play at 6:52 from forward Kory Karlander. Bootland completed the scoring at 15:57 from Daavettila. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-4 on the power play while the Wings went 4-for-5.
