
Stingrays Clinch Postseason Berth with 5-2 Win Over Road Warriors

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (37-28-4-3) clinched a spot in the 2012 Kelly Cup Playoffs Saturday night with a 5-2 victory over the Greenville Road Warriors (41-25-2-4) in front of 5,942 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The Stingrays kicked off the scoring at 5:32 of the first period with forward Nielsson Arcibal's first professional goal beating Road Warriors goaltender Nic Riopel (L, 26 saves on 30 shots) under the blocker. Forward Shea Walters and defenseman Phil Oreskovic earned assists. Forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien put the Stingrays up 2-0 at 8:33 from forward Patrick Cullen . The Road Warriors cut the lead in half at 9:11 with a tally from forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand . Defenseman Wes Cunningham grabbed the lone assist. Moments later, Road Warriors defenseman Adam Comrie tied the game knocking a rebound past Stingrays netminder Daren Machesney (W, 24 saves on 26 shots) at 12:38. Forward Brett Robinson and defenseman T.J. Reynolds added assists.
The Stingrays reclaimed the lead at 4:53 of the third period with forward Daniel Koger's 11th goal of the season from forward Maxime Lacroix and defenseman Zach Tarkir . Forward Shea Walters buried his first pro goal at 11:26 to give the Stingrays a 4-2 lead. Forward Greg Stewart and defenseman Damon Kipp registered assists. Rookie Michael Dorr sealed the victory for the Stingrays with an empty-net goal at 19:34 from Koger and Lacroix. The Stingrays went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-4.
The Stingrays open the 2012 Kelly Cup Playoffs with Game One of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Gwinnett Gladiators on Tuesday, April 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Postseason tickets go on sale Monday, April 2 . Game Two is scheduled for Wednesday, April 4 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
