Royals Top Titans in Finale

March 31, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

READING, Pa. - As has been the case in so many games this 2011-12 season, the Titans battled, but came up short against a determined opponent.

The Titans, after a 6-4 loss to the Reading Royals before 6,218 at the Sovereign Center Saturday night, finished with a 21-41-4-6-52 mark, while Reading ended the regular season 36-28-4-4-80 and earned an ECHL playoff spot with Cincinnati's 3-2 overtime win over Chicago..

Ethan Cox recorded a hat trick for the Royals, scoring a goal in each period. Cox scored the lone goal of the first period, but matters went awry for the Titans in a matter of 29 seconds at the beginning of the second period.

First Ian O'Connor scored short-handed for the Royals 1:41 into the second period, with Cox putting home his second goal at 2:10. Ray DiLauro, assisted by Dustin Cameron and Andy Bohmbach, chopped Reading's advantage to 3-1 at 8:53, but Yannick Tifu pushed the margin to 4-1 just 64 seconds later.

But the Titans, playing a pesky game, got goals from Drew Akins, assisted by Cameron and Eric Baier at 13:51 and Mark Armstrong, assisted by Akins, at 19:34 to make it 4-3 after two periods.

It went back-and-forth in the third period, with Denny Urban scoring for Reading at 15:50, and Adam Presizniuk getting his 13th goal, from DiLauro, at 16:57. With the game at 5-4, Cox completed his hat trick with 43 seconds remaining.
