Wranglers Overcome Three-Goal Deficit to Win 6-4

March 31, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

Las Vegas - Down 3-0 in the first 24 minutes of tonight's game, the Las Vegas Wranglers battled back to win 6-4 over the Colorado Eagles and remain in the hunt for first place of the Pacific division.

Colorado took an early 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from forward Joey Sides and forward Aaron Slattengren. Putting Las Vegas at a three-goal disadvantage, Eagles forward Steve Haddon scored a power play goal at 4:11 in the second to make it a 3-0 game. Wranglers center Judd Blackwater tallied the first Las Vegas goal just 22 seconds later, though, and another goal from Wranglers defenseman Jeff May a minute later cut the Eagles' lead to one goal. On their own power play midway through the second, Wranglers left wing Adam Miller tallied the game-tying goal to knot the score 3-3, but Colorado ended the period in the lead once again on a goal by forward Jordan Baker.

Down a goal at the start of the third, Eric Lampe recorded his 37th goal of the season to tie the game 4-4 six minutes into the final period. With that goal, Lampe set a new Wranglers club record for most goals in a season, surpassing Peter Ferraro from the 2007-08 season. Hooked on a clean breakaway minutes later, Wranglers forward Sean Wiles was awarded a penalty shot in lieu of a power play, and his goal on Eagles goaltender Damien Kelto gave Las Vegas their first lead of the night. With Kelto pulled in the last minute of the game, Wranglers center Ash Goldie notched an empty-net goal, giving the Wranglers a hard-earned 6-4 victory.

With the two-point win, Las Vegas now stands at 91 points in the ECHL. The Ontario Reign beat the Alaska Aces 2-1 tonight for two points as well, maintaining a one-point lead over the Wranglers with 92 points. For the Wranglers to win first place in the Pacific division tomorrow night, the Wranglers must win while the Reign lose in regulation, overtime or a shootout. In a tie-breaker situation, the Wranglers would win the Pacific division championship by having more non-shootout victories than the Reign.

For the final game of the regular season, the Wranglers will face the Eagles tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The Wranglers will also host "Fan Appreciation Night," where fans can win a variety of prizes and meet the entire team after the game for photos and autographs. Tonight's full box score can be found here .

Playoff tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through the Wranglers front office at (702) 471-PUCK. Fans can lock in their seats by purchasing playoff strip tickets starting at $18 per game. Individual Wranglers playoff tickets are available by phone at (702) 284-7777, and can be purchased in person at all Coast Casino properties, Town Square shopping center or online at www.orleansarena.com . The Wranglers play all 36 regular-season home games at the Orleans Arena, located next to the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
