Stingrays Boost Lineup with Addition of Veteran Leader

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have agreed to terms with forward Scott Tanski, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Ryan Warsofsky announced today.

"Scott is a guy who has been this league for a few years now and we're glad he's joined us," said Warsofsky. "He brings a lot to the table including leadership. He's a guy who's hungry for a championship. We want guys down here in South Carolina who want to win. Talking to him, that was a huge component of him coming here. We're excited to add him to the mix. He'll be another leader in that locker room who will be huge for the younger guys."

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound veteran forward enters his sixth professional season and joins South Carolina after spending the majority of his professional career with the rival Orlando Solar Bears. Tanski, 26, has 271 professional games under his belt, including 152 games over parts of four seasons with Orlando. In total, Tanski has 78 points (37 goals, 41 assists) in 203 ECHL games. His most productive season came in 2013-14 when he scored 17 goals for the Solar Bears. A fan favorite, Tanski played a large role in the Orlando community and was the face of the franchise off the ice.

"I'm extremely excited to join the Stingrays," said Tanski. "South Carolina has always been one of the top organizations in the league. Every time I played against the Stingrays it was a battle, so I'm happy to be on the other end of it. I have a great relationship with Ryan Warsofsky and I'm happy to be back in South Division. You see the amazing fan base the Stingrays have, and how they've been so successful over the years, and I want to come in and help add to that success by winning a Kelly Cup. I can't wait to bring it on and off the ice. Being part of the community is huge to me. I'm excited to bring some initiatives to South Carolina and do everything in my power to be a big part of the Lowcountry community."

In 2015-16, Tanski skated in three games with Orlando before being acquired by the Reading Royals on December 1. With the Royals, Tanski skated in 51 games, scoring 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) with 24 penalty minutes. He served as an alternate captain for the Royals.

The Burlington, Ontario native spent his rookie season with the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2011-12, appearing in 68 games and notching 11 points (five goals, six assists). Prior to turning pro, Tanski spent four years with the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), registering 133 points (53 goals, 80 assists) in 219 games.
