Nailers Re-Sign Danny Fick
August 24, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce their eighth player signing of the 2016 offseason. Wheeling has signed defenseman Danny Fick to an ECHL contract.
Fick, 25, played his first season of professional hockey in North America during the 2015-16 campaign, when he was invited to attend Wheeling's training camp, before ultimately earning a spot on the club's opening roster. Danny started to become a regular in the lineup in the middle of November, which was also when he notched his first career point - a game-tying assist on the 14th against Evansville. The Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota native netted his first goal in a Nailers uniform on January 9th, which turned out to be the first of two that month, as he lit the lamp again on January 29th, opening the scoring in a key victory at Elmira. Fick finished the regular season with three goals, four assists, and seven points in 53 games, then added five helpers in 26 playoff contests. Danny's +6 rating in the first round against Florida was tops on the team.
"Danny Fick had a good rookie season, and showed big strides in the playoffs, as his consistency picked up significantly," said Nailers Head Coach Jeff Christian. "He is very responsible defensively, is a good team guy, and leads in the room. I am looking forward to helping him be more creative, while joining the rush this season."
Prior to his time in Wheeling, Fick played one season in Norway for the Manglerud Star Ishockey Team. There, Danny produced one assist in 24 regular season games, before upping his numbers to five points in six relegation matches. Additionally, Fick played four seasons of college hockey at Harvard University. He suited up in 96 games with the Crimson, registering one goal, eight assists, and nine points.
"I am really excited to be back in Wheeling, and I am looking forward to the start of the season," Fick said. "We had a great group of guys last year, and hopefully we can continue our winning ways this season. Personally, my game improved as the year went on, and I want to continue to improve, picking up where I left off."
Danny Fick and the Eastern Conference Champion Wheeling Nailers will open the 2015-16 season on October 15th against the Brampton Beast at 7:05.
