Speedy Breton, Relentless Perfetto Return to Alaska
August 24, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Flying by opposing defensemen with his speed and scoring big goals...that's Justin Breton.
Dishing the perfect pass on the 2 on 1 break and pestering opposing forwards until they cough up the puck...that's Stephen Perfetto.
Both Breton and Perfetto will return to continue to hone their craft this coming season with the Alaska Aces, proud affiliate of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks and AHL's Utica Comets.
Head Coach and President of Hockey Operations Rob Murray made the announcement Wednesday.
The 27 year old Breton carried the scoring load for the Aces through much of last season. The 6-1, 180 pound left wing, a native of Fitchburg, MA, had his most productive year as a pro, scoring a team-leading 23 goals with 18 assists for 41 points. Breton also saw action in two AHL games with the Manitoba Moose near the end of the season. His biggest asset is his blazing speed, which creates problems for the opposition in more ways than one according to Murray.
"Justin could very well be the fastest skater in the ECHL," said Murray. "That speed opens opportunities on offense, but also helps us tremedously all over the ice. He improved his game by a large amount last season, and put up numbers he was fully capable of his first season here. He just needed more time..a top-end guy for sure."
25 year old Stephen Perfetto has his hockey career on an upward trajectory for sure. The 5-9, 175 pound center was an ironman, playing in all 72 games for Alaska last season, scoring 15 goals with 33 assists for 48 points. The Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada native moved to first-line status late in the season and blossomed, showing his dynamic abilities according to Murray.
"Stephen is a well-conditioned, relentless player who adds a lot and makes others around him better," said Murray. "For a first-year guy, he was a good pro. We're looking forward to watching him continue to improve."
Breton and Perfetto join forwards Tim Coffman, Collin Valcourt, Ben Lake, Kenny Babinski, Charlie Sampair and Peter Sivak and defensemen Daniel Johnston, Marc-Andre Levesque, Ryan Trenz, Brandon Martell and Nick Cecere and goaltenders Jacob DeSerres and Lukas Hafner as announced signings by the Aces for the 2016-17 season.
