
Stingers Score Twenty in Win Versus Bucks

WATERLOO, IA - The Willmar Stingers dominated the Waterloo Buck tonight, 20-1.
When the final out was recorded, the 19-run lead was tied for the fifth-largest margin of victory in the Northwoods League.
Despite the loss, The Waterloo Bucks did hold a lead early in the game. In the bottom of the second, Karl Koerper got home after an error followed a single from Mason Dobie.
The Stingers would take the lead in the top of the fourth when they scored three runs thanks to a Zac Corbin two-run double and Will Busch RBI single.
Willmar blew the lead open in the top of the sixth when they scored 14 runs. The Stingers sent 19 batters to the plate going through the lineup twice while scoring two touchdowns worth of runs. Aidan Byrne started off the scoring with a three-run RBI Triple to make the score 6-1.
Byrne was named the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of Game. He finished the game 2-4 with 5 RBIs. He now has three triples on the year and is tied for second for the most triples in the Northwoods League.
Some other electric plays included a two-run RBI double from Joey Walls, a two-run RBI single from Busch, and an RBI double from Drey Dirksen.
The score at the end of the sixth inning was 17-1 and the Stingers would go on to score three more runs in the top of the ninth to finish the score at 20-1.
Jack Habeck got his sixth win of the year and his ERA now sits at 1.37. Habeck now leads the Northwoods League in both wins and with the best ERA amongst qualifying starting pitchers.
The Stingers were able to capture their first win of the second half of the season and are looking for another to complete the sweep tomorrow.
