Kenosha Kingfish News Release
The Kenosha Kingfish fell to the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 6-2 at Historic Simmons Field Friday night.
The Kingfish have now dropped three of their first four contests to start the second half of the season off.
The Battle Jacks opened up the scoring on the day with a pair of runs in the top of the third to make it 2-0. Jace Matkin scored on a wild pitch, and Patrick Mills sent Isaiah Gibbs sprinting home on a line drive sacrifice fly.
Battle Creek tacked on another run to extend the lead to three in the top of the fifth when Aaron Dolney sprinted home on a double steal with runners on the corners. The Kingfish fought back in the bottom half of the inning by scoring two runs of their own to bring the ball game closer at 3-2. Jay Beshears plated Jacob Tobias on an RBI groundout, and Omar Lopez sent Drake Westcott home on a single to center. This was Lopez's first RBI in a Kenosha uniform.
The Battle Jacks then bolstered their lead to 6-2 in the top half of the seventh frame. Dolney hit a two-RBI single that sent Charlie Rhee and Brycen Sherwood home. Joey Grabanski then crossed the plate on a wild pitch to extend the lead to four runs.
Battle Creek's bats were led by Dolney, who went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Kenosha's bats were ignited by Westcott. He went 3-for-4 with a run and a double on the day.
John Creviston (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on one hit and four walks in two and two thirds of an inning.
Jackson Braden (1-1) got his first win of the season after allowing just one earned run on eight hits while fanning eight hitters in five and two thirds of an inning.
The Kingfish (1-3) sit in fifth place in the Great Lakes East, and the Battle Jacks (2-2) sit in a tie for third.
Kenosha and Battle Creek will play game three of the series on July 10 at 4:05 p.m.
