Green Bay Rockers News Release
Ashwaubenon, Wis.- The Green Bay Rockers fell to the Kalamazoo Growlers 11-4 Friday night at Capital Credit Union Park in the first of back-to-back meetings between the two teams.
The Rockers will now look for the series split Saturday at home as Green Bay now goes to 1-2 in second half play on the season while the Growlers improve to 2-1 in the second half of the 2022 season.
Kalamazoo scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, off an RBI groundout but Green Bay responded in the bottom half of the frame with two runs off a two-out two-RBI single from Collier Cranford, as the Rockers led 2-1 through the first inning of play.
The Growlers responded in the top of the second, with a two-run home run as they led 3-2 going into the third inning.
Kalamazoo scored five runs in the top of the third inning, taking an 8-2 through the first three innings and then added two more in the fourth to take a 10-2 through four innings of play.
The Growlers took an 11-2 lead halfway through the game off an RBI single, keeping themselves out in front after five innings of play.
In the top of the sixth, Jaxon Meyer pitched a 1-2-3 inning of relief, including striking out the last two batters of the frame, shutting out the Growlers in the sixth.
Griffin Stevens brought a run home for Green Bay on an RBI groundout, cutting the lead to 11-3 heading into the seventh.
Chase Pelter pitched a scoreless seventh inning himself to keep it 11-3 going into the eighth inning of play.
Despite two base runners for Kalamazoo in the top of the eighth, Pelter kept the Growlers off the board, pitching his second straight scoreless inning of the game going into the ninth.
The Rockers scored one run in the bottom of the ninth off an RBI single from Cranford, making it 11-4, but a strikeout ended the game, handing the Growlers the road victory in Green Bay.
