Kingfish Lose Pitcher's Duel 4-1

The Kenosha Kingfish fell to the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 4-1 at Historic Simmons Field Friday night.

The Kingfish have lost two of their last three games, and the Battle Jacks got their first win of the second half.

Battle Creek struck first in the top of the third frame on an Aaron Dolney single that plated Bobby Nichols.

Brady Counsell helped Kenosha tie the ball game at 1-1 in the fourth on an infield single that plated Jay Beshears.

The Battle Jacks jumped back ahead 2-1 when 2022 NWL All-Star Patrick Mills sent Dillon Kark jogging across home plate on a sacrifice fly to center field.

Battle Creek extended their lead in the sixth frame with a pair of runs to make it 4-1. Dolney scored on an error off the bat of Robbie Merced, and Merced scored on a James Canar single.

The Battle Jacks held off the Kingfish for the remainder of the game to win the first of this four game set.

Aaron Dolney led the Battle Creek offense by going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Jay Beshears kept his bat hot with a 2-for-3 with a run, a double and a walk on the day.

Garrett Martin (1-1) got the win and was dealing all day long, as he pitched seven innings while giving up one run on six hits with five strikeouts as well.

Victor Loa (1-1) took the loss after giving up two earned runs on four hits while striking out eight in five frames.

The Kingfish (1-2) and Battle Jacks (1-2) both sit in a tie for third place in the Great Lakes East division.

Kenosha and Battle Creek will go at it again on Saturday with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch time.
