Willmar Stingers News Release
WATERLOO, IA - The Willmar Stingers outlasted the Waterloo Bucks in ten innings tonight, 7-6.
This marks the second extra-inning victory for the Stingers in as many games. Both extra-innings games would be won on the road and (funny enough) finished with a 7-6 final score.
For the second game in a row, the Waterloo Bucks got the lead in the opening three innings. Waterloo's Karl Koerper hit a two-run double scoring two runs and then Raphael Pelletier was able to send home Koerper before the end of the inning.
With the score 3-0, the Stingers would get on the board in the top of the fifth after Jake Entrekin sent home Nick Terrell with an RBI single.
In the back three innings, the game went back in forth more than a boat caught in a summer storm. The Stingers would tie the game in the top of the seventh after Will Safford sent a double to right field scoring two runs. The Bucks would take the lead in the bottom of the seventh when they were able to get another run across to make the score 4-3.
The Stingers would automatically respond in the top of the eighth scoring two more runs by the bats of Will Hodo and Nick Terrell giving their first lead of the game.
The Stingers had a chance to finish it in the bottom of the ninth, however, the Bucks were able to even the game at five apiece.
Willmar did come up with the win after Zac Corbin hit a pitch hit two-RBI single with two outs in the top of the tenth. Corbin was named the MinnWest Technology Player of the Game after his clutch hit scored the winning runs for the Stingers. John Bezdicek got his second win of the season after his two-inning relief effort with zero earned runs.
The Willmar Stingers will finish their three-game road trip with a game at ISG Field to take on the Mankato MoonDogs in a primetime Great Plains West matchup. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
