Green Bay Rockers News Release
Ashwaubenon, Wis. - The Green Bay Rockers took down the Rockford Rivets 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Capital Credit Union Park in 12 innings as the Rockers won the game on a walk-off walk by Jake Berg.
Led by the walk-off walk from Berg, the Rockers won their second straight game as they improved to 3-2 in second half play while the Rivets dropped to 2-3 through the first five games in the second half of 2022.
Rockford brought home the first run of the game on an RBI single, but Owen Jackson quickly responded with a solo home run, tying the score up at one apiece through the first inning.
Luke Singleton pitched a scoreless second inning after Rockford stranded the bases loaded, keeping the score at 1-1 after two innings of play.
Following a scoreless third and fourth inning on both sides, Kyle Stoddard pitched a scoreless fifth inning of relief, keeping it a 1-1 game halfway through the ballgame.
The Rivets took the lead back on a solo home run to right, but Griffin Stevens responded in the bottom half of the sixth, driving home Matt Scannell on an RBI single, tying the score at two through six innings.
The seventh and eighth innings went scoreless on both sides, before Stoddard kept it that way in the top of the ninth pitching another scoreless inning.
The Rockers did not score in the bottom of the ninth, as the game headed to extra innings with the score tied at two apiece.
After both teams went scoreless in the tenth inning, Rockford took the lead 3-2 off an RBI single, setting the stage for Green Bay to respond.
The Rockers would respond as Danny Wuestenfeld got an RBI single, scoring the tying run in the eleventh inning, and extending the game to the twelfth.
After Jacob Conover forced the Rivets into an inning-ending double play, that set the stage for Berg, who came up with the bases loaded and no one out.
Berg took first base on five pitches, and drove in the winning run for the Rockers, giving them the 4-3 win in extra innings.
The Rockers and Rivets will face off once again on Monday, to conclude the two-game series at Capital Credit Union Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. with the pregame concert performed by One Dan Man Band starting at 5:35 p.m.
It is also free hot dog Monday at the ballpark, meaning that hot dogs are free for the first 90 minutes after gates open.
