Sarnia Sting News Release

The Sarnia Sting bent but did not break as they held on to beat the Saginaw Spirit 5-4 to earn their first exhibition win.

Patrick White scored two goals to pace the Sting and Jeff King had a goal and an assist. Kevin Spinozzi and Jordan Kyrou added a pair of assists each.

Saginaw managed to trim the lead to one goal three times in the third period but goaltender Kaden Fulcher managed to shut the door, coming up with key saves when needed to keep Sarnia ahead.

In the final minute Sarnia was called for a delay of game but fought off the penalty to give the Sting it's first win of the pre-season.

The Sting jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from White at 4:02, from Sasha Cmelevski and Jeff King at 7:05. Spinozzi drew the lone assist on the King tally. Sarnia out shot Saginaw 7-2.

In the opening minute of the middle stanza Tye Felhaber was awarded a penalty shot and made good to slice the lead to 2-1.

With less than two minutes left, White added his second goal, tipping a point shot from Spinozzi from the blue line. Jeff King also assisted on the goal.

The third period went back and forth as the two teams combined for four goals.

Aiden Hughes drew the starting assignment for the Sting and allowed just one goal. Fulcher came in relief at the midway point of the game. He was tested quite a bit but played solid giving up just a pair of goals.

Sarnia swings back into action a week from Thursday in Windsor against the Spitfires.
