Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack took to home ice for the first time this pre-season on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Unfortunately for Owen Sound, home ice didn't provide a better result than their road contest, and the visiting Colts walked away with a 4-0 victory.

Just like the first match up of the pre-season on Monday, the Barrie Colts tickled the twine first.

With the Attack on a Baywest Nissan Powerplay halfway through the first period, Chiwetin Blacksmith scored a shorthanded tally to put Barrie up 1-0. Blacksmith's goal came unassisted.

The Colts would then double their lead, countering what looked like a promising Attack rush with a 3-on-2 of their own. After successfully breaking out of their zone, the Colts' Michael Webster found himself with the puck on his stick in the high slot and beat goaltender Riley Daniels with a high shot.

Barrie's 2nd of the game would be the final tally of the opening 20 minutes of play, and the teams skated to the intermission with Owen Sound trailing 2-0.

That two goal advantage would remain the same after 40 minutes, with the highlight of the middle stanza being a ten-bell save by Attack goalkeeper Daniels on a Chiwetin Smith breakaway.

While the Attack looked to cut Barrie's lead in half early in the final period, it was the Colts who would score the next goal.

Taking advantage of yet another special teams opportunity, Brandon Prophet scored on a high wrist shot from the point while the Attack were on a Paul Davis Systems Penalty kill. Prophet's goal, which was assisted by Giordano Finoro, came at the 7:31 mark of the 3rd and gave Barrie a 3-0 lead.

The Colts would ice the game with 2:28 to play thanks to an unassisted empty net goal by Michael Webster.

Riley Daniels turned aside 20 of 23 shots on the evening as the Attack were able to outshoot Barrie 36-23 on the Mark McDade Remax Shot Clock.

The Attack will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they host the North Bay Battalion at 7:00 pm.

Tickets for that game and all 2015-16 Attack home games are available at the DJ's Furniture Attack Box Office or by calling 519-371-7452.
