Kitchener Rangers News Release

Brandon Perlini tied the game with just 1:20 left to play and Johnny Corneil capitalized 1:32 into overtime as the Niagara IceDogs scored a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Kitchener Rangers at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday night.

It looked as if the Rangers would not only win their second straight game of the preseason, but also pick up back-to-back shutouts as starting goaltender Dawson Carty and the home team held on to a 1-0 lead until the 18:40 mark of the third period.

Perlini's goal was the first to beat a Rangers goaltender this preseason, tying the game 1-1 from Kyle Langdon and William Lochead, sending the game to the new 3-on-3 overtime format.

Corneil's goal from Matt Gillard secured the win for the IceDogs, who are now 1-1 in preseason action. The loss was the first for the Rangers, who are also 1-1 in exhibition play.

After a scoreless first period it was Darby Llewellyn who tallied the opening goal of the game, giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 16:55 of the second period - their 31st shot of the night - with Adam Mascherin and Frank Hora each picking up an assist.

Shots were 18-9 Rangers after one period, and 31-26 after two.

IceDogs starting goaltender Stephen Dhillon saw a lot of action early and stopped all 24 Rangers shots he faced before being replaced by backup Colton Incze at 9:39 of the second period. It was Incze who gave up the goal to Llewellyn but earned the win, stopping 20 of 21 shots.

Carty was saddled with the loss for the Rangers but had a strong performance, making 38 of 40 saves.

Final shots were 45-40, including 44-38 through regulation in favour of the Rangers.

Kitchener and Niagara were both 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

Frank Hora, Connor Bunnaman and Ryan MacInnis each wore 'A's and skated as assistant captains for the game.

The exhibition schedule continues for the Rangers late next week when they travel to the Mastercard Centre in Toronto to take on the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday, September 18th at 7:30pm. They close out the preseason when they once again meet the Niagara IceDogs, this time in St. Catharine's at the Meridian Centre, on Saturday, September 19th for a 7pm start.
