Sarnia Sting News Release

Sarnia Sting General Manager, Nick Sinclair and Head Coach, Trevor Letowski announced today that DeAngelo and Nikandrov have been named Alternate Captains.

Entering his fourth season as a member of the Sarnia Sting, reigning top scoring defenseman, Anthony DeAngelo has been called upon by the coaching staff to take on an even bigger leadership role with the team this season. DeAngelo, who recorded 71 points last season, will be expected to set an example for his teammates both on the ice and in the dressing room.

Head Coach, Trevor Letowski comments, "Anthony is certainly a leader for us on the ice and we will be counting on the valuable experience he has gained over the summer with the Tampa Bay organization. Anthony has taken great strides off the ice and we feel he is ready for this responsibility."

The second Alternate Captain, Daniel Nikandrov is heading into his third season as a member of the Sarnia Sting. He is a high character player who is well respected in the dressing room. Alongside DeAngelo, these two players will play an important role in the development of a young Sarnia Sting core. Nikandrov tallied 9 goals, 16 assists for 25 points last season.

Letowski goes on to add, "Daniel is someone our players look up to for guidance and he is someone constantly looking to help make the players around him better. Daniel's communication skills within our dressing room are excellent and he can draw on his experience in our league to assist in leading our club." - Trevor Letowski

General Manager, Sinclair added the following regarding the leadership of the hockey club. "We feel that Anthony and Daniel are two players that we will be counting on for leadership on our club but I also want to point out Taylor Dupuis' contributions in this area as well. Although we won't be putting a letter on his jersey, Taylor is certainly a part of this leadership group. We are a young team and we want our younger players to also feel empowered to display their natural leadership abilities. This is a tight knit group and along with our coaching staff we feel that our leadership is in very capable hands."
