Belleville Bulls News Release

GUELPH, ON - The wait is over. OHL hockey returns for the 34th season in Belleville, as the Bulls embark on a new season with a young team that has a great deal of potential. Falling one game short of the post season just under 6 months ago, the Bulls are looking to rewrite the script in 2014 and return to the successful ways the franchise has grown accustomed to. It's only fitting the 2014-15 season kicks off against the defending OHL Champions.

The Belleville Bulls travel to Guelph, Ontario Friday night to open the campaign and will witness their counterparts raise their brand new championship banner. Some extra motivation for a team that only saw 9 wins on the road last year. The Storm are fresh off a season to remember, posting the best record in franchise history and defeating the North Bay Battalion 4 games to 1 in the 2013-14 OHL finals. "It should be motivating for our team. If this is where we want to be and something that we want to do in our future, to see the process and experience it shoud be a motivating few minutes." said Head Coach George Burnett Friday morning.

After going 1-3 in preseason the Bulls are looking to get off to a quicker start when it counts. They will get a very nice boost as Captain Jake Marchment, Jordan Subban, who scored his first NHL goal against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night, Remi Elie and Stephen Harper who will move back to defence this year, were all attending NHL Training Camps have returned to the line up. "It was definitely an eye opener, it just shows you how many players there are and how many guys are trying to make it. Being treated like an NHL player just makes you want to work that much harder." said Jake Marchment after his first practice back with the club Thursday afternoon. Guelph will also have some key roster players back in the line up as they shipped off 13 players to NHL Training Camps this year.

A very impressive group of rookies that begin their OHL career Friday night include Matt Luff, who scored twice in two separate preseason games, defencemen Cole Candella and Jack Hanley and Grimsby, Ontario native Brandon Saigeon. "Maybe a little butterflies but I think that's natural. I'm just going in there with an open mind and trying to work hard with my linemates and hopefully we come away with two points." said Saigeon who scored 28 goals and added 29 helpers last season witht the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs.

-- The Bulls will make a fast turn around as they head back to the Yardmen Arena Saturday to take on the Sudbury Wolves in their Home Opener at 7:05. You can get full play-by-play coverage from Guelph with Tim Durkin starting at 7:30 on 800 CJBQ AM.
