Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today the five-game suspension of Head Coach Tommy Stewart for using an ineligible player on December 29th.
The consequence was the result of Stewart's decision to sign Sean Edwards to a five-game tryout agreement before last Saturday night's home game against Twin City. Due to the suspension of forward Andrew Katzberg, the FireAntz were only allowed to skate 17 players, but Edwards became the 18th player on the game-night roster.
Due to the oversight, the FireAntz will have to skate one man short for each of the next four games, according to SPHL Director of Hockey Operations Bill Coffey. This decision will also result in FireAntz' General Manager Kevin MacNaught replacing Stewart behind the bench on game nights.
The FireAntz will play their next three games on the road and return home on January 11th to face off with the Knoxville Ice Bears for the second time at home this season. Stewart is eligible to return January 18th at home against the Twin City Cyclones.
