Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

Starting pitcher Will Stewart threw a standout performance on Saturday night, tossing 8 2/3 innings without a hit in Jupiter's 3-1 win against the Palm Beach Cardinals.

Lefty Stewart was in command for nearly nine full innings, shutting down the Cardinals offense with 5 1/3 perfect innings and 8 2/3 hitless innings in his 16th start of the season. In his longest start this year by a full inning, the Alabama native threw a career-high 108 pitches with 68 strikes and a season-high-tying eight strikeouts on his way to earning a clear win for the night.

Stewart left the mound after Cardinal Bryce Denton ended the no-hit bid with a two-out double in the 9th, but Denton would be batted in under reliever CJ Carter, adding one run to Stewarts' final line: 8.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 B, 8 K, 27 BF.

Stewart was assisted by great fielding from players like third baseman James Nelson, who recorded one put out and seven assists, and Victor Victor Mesa who made three solid catches in center field.

The Hammerheads offense brought enough stuff to record the three runs early on that earned them the win. Jerar Encarnacion hit a 2-run RBI single in the 3rd, scoring Mesa and Pompey. In the bottom of the 4th, three consecutive singles, the final off tha bat of Mesa to bat in Harrison Dinicola, gave Jupiter run number three.

Marlins 1st round draft pick and 4th round pick overall JJ Bleday made his professional debut batting third and playing right. The Vanderbilt baseball alum went 1-3 with a single in the 5th in his first game in the Marlins organization.

The Hammerheads finish off their series against Palm Beach tomorrow at 1:0pm at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. For tickets, visit jupiterhammerheads.com/tickets.
