Frederick Keys News Release

The Frederick bats exploded today for 15 runs on 18 hits, as the Keys defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks 15-9.

LHP Zach Britton got the start for the Keys. Frederick got him some early run support. In the bottom of the first, 2B Bobby Stevens hit a solo homerun to give the Keys a 1-0 lead.

Frederick tacked on another run in the second. 3B Tyler Henson doubled. DH Caleb Joseph drove him in with an RBI-single to make it a two-run Frederick lead.

That score stood until the top of the fourth. CF Derrick Robinson reached on a double. He scored on an RBI single from SS Jeff Bianchi, cutting the deficit in half. With two on, the next batter 1B Clint Robinson drilled a three-run homerun to give the Blue Rocks a 4-2 lead.

The Keys tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth. With one on and one out, Joseph hit a two-run homerun.

In the top of the fifth, the Blue Rocks took the lead back. A walk, two errors and two hits led to four Wilmington runs. The big blow was a two-run double by RF Paulo Orlando. The Keys trailed 8-4.

Frederick started chipping away in the bottom half of the inning. Stevens hit a solo homerun, his second of the ball game, to make it an 8-5 game.

Things came unraveled for Wilmington in the sixth. The Keys batted around and scored four runs on four hits. 3B Billy Rowell hit a monster two-run homerun to pull the Keys to within one. Stevens then drove in two runs on a double to give Frederick a 9-8 lead.

Wilmington would tie it up, though, in the seventh. With runners on first and second and two down, Orlando lifted a fly ball to right field. Rowell dropped the ball, allowing Bianchi to score from second.

The tie didn't last long. In the bottom of the seventh, 3B Tyler Henson drilled a lead off double to right-center field. It was his third two-bagger of the ball game. Rowell knocked him in with a single to left, to give the Keys the lead.

Frederick would tack on five insurance runs in the eight. The big inning was capped off by a 2-run homerun off the bat of Billy Rowell.

When it was all said and done, Frederick had scored 15 runs on 18 hits. The club combined to hit five homeruns. Stevens went 5-5, with the two homeruns (1, 2), four RBI and three runs scored. Rowell went 3-5 with two homers (3, 4) and five RBI. Henson was 4-4 with three doubles and five runs scored.

RHP Cliff Flagello got the win after allowing an unearned run over two innings. He's 1-0. LHP Kelvin Villa took the loss, dropping his record to 0-3.
