THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg won both ends of an extended doubleheader last night over Salem at Memorial Ballpark after they won a pair of games on Thursday night over Myrtle Beach...The Hillcats won game one 12-5 and game two 10-2 last night over the Red Sox...The first game began on Friday night and was suspended in the top of the fourth inning due to rain...The Hillcats have now won a season-high five games in a row and are again in first place in the Northern Division and again have the best record in the Carolina League...Tonight is the final game of a three-game series at Salem and game three of six in a row on the road...
VS. SALEM: Last season Lynchburg won the season series against Salem, then the Avalanche and an affiliate of the Houston Astros, by a count of 12-8, but they were 4-6 on the road against the Av's...Salem was the only team in the Carolina League that the Hillcats had a winning record against...The Hillcats swept a four-game series to finish off the 2008 campaign...In the all-time series Salem leads 127-145 and they are 84-53 on their home field against Lynchburg...Salem, now a Red Sox affiliate that holds the same nickname, is the last team in the CL that Lynchburg has not played this year...
WE'RE GOING STREAKING: Lynchburg has now won a season-high five games in a row...They swept Myrtle Beach in a rain shortened three-games series...The Hillcats now have a new high water mark on the year at nine games over .500 (19-10)...
SWEET SWEEP: Lynchburg has a chance with a win today to earn their second straight series sweep...They won both games Thursday night to sweep a double dip against Myrtle Beach and sweep the rain shortened three-game series...It marks the first series sweep of the season for the Hillcats who only had two sweeps all of last season...
SMASHING SALEM: In the first two games of this three-game set the Hillcats have scored 22 runs...That is the most runs Lynchburg has scored in back-to-back games this season...They now have scored double digits in four games this year...
SLEW OF SOUTHPAWS: After the Hillcats faced a southpaw in the first game of this series, the Cats had faced a lefty starter in 12 out of 15 games...Lynchburg also has their share of lefty starters, as three of their starting five are southpaws...With the win last night, the Cats improved to 10-6 against lefties this season...
NOT QUITE NINE: Three of the Hillcats last four games have gone less than nine innings of action...All three of thse games were scheduled to be seven innings contest and one of them went to an extra-inning before it was decided...
LONG TIME COMING: Last night RHP Ronald Uviedo won his first game of the season, in his sixth start of the season...It was his first win as a Hillcat despite the fact that he spent time in Lynchburg the last two years...It was also his first win as a starter since 2005 in the Seattle Mariners organization...Uviedo had allowed one earned run or less in four of five starts prior to last night, but was yet to earn a win...
DURHAM DIALED IN: UTIL Miles Durham is riding a six-game hitting streak in which he is batting .541 (13-for-24) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored...In the two games the Hillcats won yesterday, Durham went a combined 6-for-9 with two doubles, a homer, four RBI and two runs...
MAIKO JUST MIGHT: OF Maiko Loyola went a combined 4-for-9 in the first two games of this series with a double, two home runs five RBI and three runs scored...He became the second Hillcats this year with a multi-homer game when he went deep twice in game one...Coming into the series, Loyola had one home run and five RBI in 19 games...
