Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, FL.---Dunedin defeated the Daytona Tortugas by the 6-2 final in the finale of the three game series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The combination of righties Graham Spraker and Matt Shannon retired 14 hitters in a row from the third to the eighth innings. Spraker pitched five solid innings and registered four strikeouts on the way to his third win of the year.
The Blue Jays cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when Ryan Noda lifted a fly ball to right that allowed Cal Stevenson to score to put Dunedin ahead 1-0. After a brief stoppage in the action because of a rain, Daytona tied the game when Andy Sugilio looped a single to left center allowing Lorenzo Cedrola to score.
The scoring for Daytona was shut down after that as Spraker and Shannon sat down 16 of next 17 hitters. In the bottom of the fourth, Ryan Noda lifted a fly ball into the jet stream and tucked it over the wall in left for his third homerun of the year. Cal Stevenson smacked a homerun to left in the sixth, and in the seventh Dunedin virtually put the game out of reach. Norberto Obeso and Samad Taylor both reached base via the single and that brought up Hunter Steinmetz who was making his D-Jays debut tonight. Hunter got a pitch to hit at the bottom of the zone and served a three run shot over the left field wall to extend the Dunedin lead to 6-1.
Despite adding a run late, Daytona was left without any extra base hits in the game. After winning their sixth series of the year, the official homestand now shifts to Jack Russell Memorial Stadium in Clearwater for game one of a three game series tomorrow night. The first pitch is set for 6:30 E.T. RHP Maximo Castillo (1-2, 2.33) makes the start tomorrow for the Blue Jays against a starter to be named later for St. Lucie.
