Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers fell into an early deficit and could not climb back in Friday night's 10-1 loss to the Daytona Tortugas at Spectrum Field. With Friday's defeat, the Threshers have scored just four runs over their last three games, stretching across 23 innings.
Andrew Brown (1-3) allowed a run on an RBI single by Hendrik Clementina in the first, and labored through a 31-pitch second in which the right-hander surrendered four runs on six hits in his final inning.
Daytona (14-14) added three more runs in the fifth against Austin Ross to put the home team in an eight-run hole, and tallied two more against Keylan Killgore in the sixth with a two-run shot from Clementina.
Clearwater (11-17) avoided its second consecutive shutout on Madison Stokes' run-scoring ground out in the seventh, but struggled throughout the night with runners in scoring position by collecting just one hit in nine attempts while stranding 12 men on base.
Simon Muzziotti and Daniel Brito shined at the plate for the Threshers on Friday, with both players collecting three knocks apiece.
John Ghyzel (2-0) earned his second win of the season for the Tortugas, tossing two scoreless innings of relief, while scattering two hits, handing out a walk and striking out two.
Clearwater will look to bounce back in game two of the three-game weekend set against Daytona on Saturday night at Spectrum Field. It has yet to be determined who will take the mound for the Threshers against the Tortugas' RHP Austin Orewiler (0-2, 3.60). First pitch is schedule for 6:30 p.m., with coverage starting at 6:15 p.m. with Threshers Live! The Pregame Show on threshersbaseball.com.
Saturday is Star Wars Night at the home of the Clearwater Threshers, where fans can join dozens of Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion for a fun night of family entertainment! There will also be an amazing post-game fireworks show, presented by Banquet Masters!
