The North Adams SteepleCats saw their three game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night with a 4-2 loss to the New Bedford Bay Sox in a pitcher's duel at Paul Walsh Field. The SteepleCats fell to 10-7 with the setback.

"I thought we pitched really well with the exception of two or three pitches that I would like to have back," said Pitching Coach Jonah Bayliss. "Credit goes to their team. When we did not execute the pitches the way we wanted to, they took advantage of it and got the big hits at the right time."

For the SteepleCats, Ryan Tapp lasted five innings, giving up three runs off of four hits. He pitched a shutout through the first four innings. In the fifth, the Bay Sox began making Tapp work. He ended up walking the bases loaded. With two outs, Ryan Wolfsberg became the third consecutive hitter to work the count full. He then cleared the bases with a three run triple to give the Bay Sox a 3-0 lead.

"I thought Tapp through very well," said Coach Bayliss. "He was making great quality pitches that were right on the borderline. They were down in the zone on the corners. He made one mistake that was with the bases loaded and that turned out to be costly."

The 'Cats began a rally in the sixth when they finally figured out Bay Sox starter Samuel Nepiarsky. Daniel Holst drew a leadoff walk and then stole second. With one out, he scored on a double by Edward Haus to put the 'Cats on the board. Haus then scored on a single by C.J. Price to cut the lead to 3-2.

"The guys got together and said 'hey, let's not go down without a fight here, let's make this a ball game,'" said Coach Bayliss. "Our team is good at that. I think they took it upon themselves to rally behind everybody else, have each other's back, and try to put some runs across the board."

Nepiarsky finished the day going six innings he allowed two runs off of four hits and struck out seven. At one point, he retired eight consecutive hitters. Daniel Southerland, Dylan Collett, and Darien Ragins pitched a scoreless inning in relief to close the game out for New Bedford.

The Bay Sox added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Jakob Goldfarb led off with a single, stole second, and then advanced to third and scored on a pair of sacrifice flies to make it 4-2 New Bedford.
