Steelheads Visit Fronts Before Hosting Wolves on Sunday
November 15, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brampton Steelheads News Release
Coming off back-to-back wins against the Flint Firebirds and Guelph Storm, the Mississauga Steelheads are sitting atop the central division standings with a 12-6-2-0 record, and are tied for third place in the OHL. Taking down the Firebirds 5-4 and the Storm 4-1, the Steelheads are proving that their offence is one of the best in the league.
The Steelheads continue to improve as the season progresses, and the chemistry with the Steelheads' newest addition, Alan Lyszczarczyk seems to be growing. With a four-point night, Lyszczarczyk carried the Steelheads to their weekend victory over the Firebirds, and continued to be all over the puck in Wednesday's win against the Guelph Storm, adding an insurance goal late in the game. With consistent scoring coming from the likes of Cole Carter and Owen Tippett, as well as the Steelheads third and fourth lines contributing on the score sheet, the Steelheads have their sights set on securing the top spot in the league.
Friday November 16 @ Kingston Frontenacs (Leon's Centre)
Puck Drop @7:00pm
The Steelheads head to Kingston on Friday to take on the Frontenacs for their third meeting this season. The Frontenacs are sitting at the bottom of the East Division with 13 points and a 6-15-1-0 record, the second worst point total in the OHL. Despite their tough start to the season, the Frontenacs still have firepower with Dallas Stars draftee Jason Robertson, who has nine points in his last three games. The Steelheads lead the season series against the Fronts 2-0, and have scored nine goals against them in those two games.
Sunday November 18 vs Sudbury Wolves (Paramount Fine Foods Centre)
Puck Drop @2:00pm
The Steelheads are back at home on Sunday when division rivals Sudbury Wolves come into town. This marks the first of six matchups between these central division rivals this season, with four of those meetings coming in the next five weeks. Sudbury is 11-6-1-1 this season with 24 points, two points behind the Steelheads in the Central Division standings. The Wolves are one of the better defensive teams in the league, with their star netminder, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen leading the way with a 2.47 GAA and a .926 SAV%. In six meetings last season, the Steelheads were 5-1 against the Wolves and look to keep that same success as they try to distance themselves from Sudbury in the division.
Players to Watch
Thomas Harley: The Steelheads pick in the first round of the 2017 OHL Priority Draft has been a stud for Mississauga on their blueline this year. Eclipsing his point total from his rookie year in 40 less games, Harley is almost at a point per game pace with 17 points in 20 games. Heading into the weekend, Harley has four points in his last two games and is looking to continue to improve his NHL draft stock as the year progresses.
Jason Robertson: With 33 points in 22 games, Robertson is one of the elite scorers in the OHL. The Frontenacs have 57 goals as a team, and Robertson's 33 points has him involved in over 50% of Kingston's goals. The Dallas Stars second round draft pick has found the score sheet for six straight games and is one of lone bright spots on the Frontenacs' roster this season.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: The Finnish netminder is in the top three in the league for GAA and SAV% among starting goaltenders. Taken by Sudbury in the 2018 Import Draft, and selected in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Luukkonen is on track to carry the defensive minded Wolves team to the playoffs.
