Brampton Steelheads News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON - It was home sweet home for the Steelheads this weekend. After breaking their four game losing streak on Friday against the Niagara IceDogs, the Steelheads were back at home on Sunday to take on the Kingston Frontenacs; looking for back-to-back wins on home ice. With another solid performance by Jacob Ingham and goals coming from up and down the lineup, the Steelheads were able to claim the two points and vault themselves back to the top on the Central Division standings.

The first period was all Steelheads. Coming out hot, the Steelheads had pressure in the Frontenacs' zone for the first 10 minutes, with Kingston only registering one shot on net in that span. The only thing stopping the Steelheads was Fronts' goalie, Brendan Bonello, who made 15 saves in the first period alone. Midway through the first frame, Cole Shwindt opened the scoring for the Steelheads with a shot from the right face-off circle. Dawson Baker tied the game up at one a piece with just under five minutes to go in the firstand the two teams headed into the intermission tied 1-1.

Similar to the opening minutes of the game, the ice seemed slanted in favour of the home team to start the second stanza. The Steelheads had some solid opportunities to score, but once again, Brendan Bonello was there to shut the door for the Frontenacs. It was only a matter of time before Alan Lyszczarczyk, the newest addition to the Steelheads, potted his first for the blue and white to make it 2-1 for the home side. The Frontenacs had a great chance to tie the game up with under a minute to go in the period but Jacob Ingham stretched the right pad out to keep the Steelheads up 2-1 headed into the third period.

It was an eventful end to the game as the third period saw four goals, three of them courtesy of the Steelheads. Cole Carter opened the scoring in the frame for the Steelheads after a nice feed from Ryan McLeod to put Mississauga up 3-1. Jason Robertson responded for the Frontenacs with a shot from the high slot to bring Kingston within one. Just under a minute later, Keean Washkurak came flying down the wing on a solo-mission and got the Steelheads their two goal lead back, which they were able to hold on to for the remainder of the game. McLeod sealed the game with an empty netter, and the Steelheads came out on top with a 5-2 victory.

The Steelheads are on the road this weekend with back-to-back games against the Saginaw Spirit on Friday, and the Flint Firebirds on Saturday. The Steelheads are back at home on Wednesday, November 14, when they take on the Guelph Storm at 11am for the Mississauaga Steelheads School Day Game. Tickets for all upcoming home games can be purchased at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre Box Office or online via Ticketmaster.
