Long Beach, California - Leading by four goals early in the third period, the Steelheads held off a three-goal rally by the Ice Dogs, to win 6-5, at Long Beach Arena on Wednesday night.

The Steelheads (40-21-7) have now won 11 of their last 14 games, while improving to 5-1-0 against the Ice Dogs (35-24-9) this season.

The Ice Dogs opened the game's scoring just 46 seconds into the first period, on a goal by Ben Knopp. After two initial shots were stopped by Steelheads' goaltender Matt Yeats, Knopp pushed a third chance into the back of the net. Cory Urquhart and Lucas Lawson drew the assists.

The Steelheads answered with two goals just 28 seconds apart, to stun the home team. At 1:48, McConvey tallied his first of the game and 34th of the year. Dan Hacker and Marty Flichel got the helpers on the even-strength goal. Then at 2:16 of the stanza, defenseman Jarad Bourassa fired a shot just under the crossbar and past Ice Dogs' goaltender Olivier Michaud (13 saves) to give the Steelheads a 2-1 lead. Hacker, and McConvey assisted on Bourassa's 12th of the campaign, as the visitors scored on their first two shots.

After Bourassa's even-strength tally, Michaud was lifted in favor of Greg Hewitt (10 saves).

David Bararuk made the score 3-1 late in the second period, converting on a Paul Caponigri feed. Bararuk's 23rd of the year was also set up by Andy Contois. For Contois, it was his first professional point.

At the first intermission, the shots were 16-12 in favor of the Ice Dogs.

McConvey's second of the night came via the power play, just 1:12 into the second period to make the score 4-1. Bararuk and Flichel recorded the assists. After the goal, Hewitt was sent back to the bench in favor of Michaud.

Michael Lambert cut the lead to 4-2 at 4:20 of the second period, giving the Ice Dogs some life.

Leading 5-2 after two periods, rookie Mike Adamek buried a wrist shot over the shoulder of Michaud at 2:41 of the third to put the Steelheads in front by four. Contois got his second point on the goal, while Greg Rallo added his first career assist.

Ice Dogs' rookie Jimmy Bonneau got his first professional goal and Urquhart tallied twice later in the third to round out the scoring.

Yeats stopped 30 shots for his 20th win, as the Steelheads earn their 20th road win of the season. For the game, the Ice Dogs out-shot the Steelheads, 35-29.

The Steelheads hit the ice again on Friday, March 31, as they wrap up their two-game set against the Ice Dogs. The puck drops at 8:05 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1350 AM, "The Ticket," beginning approximately 20 minutes before the drop of the puck.
