Steelheads sign two NCAA standouts

BOISE, Idaho -The Idaho Steelheads announced today that Anthony Adams and Travis Wight will join the ECHL team for the 2006-07 season. Both are rookies and are expected to make their professional debuts on October 20th in Long Beach. Idaho's home opener is Friday, November 3rd at Qwest Arena.

Adams is a left wing who played four seasons at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (NCAA). In 108 collegiate games with the Mavericks, the 5'11", 190-pounder tallied up 37 points (15g-22a). Steelheads head coach and director of hockey operations said he signed the 24-year-old because "he's a solid player who has speed and tenacity." Prior to his NCAA career, the Vancouver, BC native racked up 64 points (34g-30a) in 58 games with the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League). Adams was a teammate at UNO with former Steelhead Dan Hacker who signed this year with Idaho's AHL affiliate, Iowa Stars.

Wight is a defenseman who attended the University of Maine (2002-2006) and was one of the Black Bears top defenseman last season. Born on July 4th, 1982, Wight hails from Fannystelle, MAN. As a 5'10", 180-pounder, Wight appeared in 102 NCAA games and collected 17 points (2g-15a).

Laxdal said of the blueliner, "Travis is an all-around player who plays hard every night and does the little things well. He plays bigger than he is and comes highly recommended by Maine coach Tim Whitehead."

Wight will attend the Manitoba Moose (AHL) training camp prior to the start of Idaho's camp.

The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the American Hockey League's (AHL) Iowa Stars and National Hockey League's (NHL) Dallas Stars.
