Allen, TX - Former-Steelhead Tristan King fired a shot from the left-wing corner at 3:28 of overtime that deflected through the pads of Philippe Desrosiers to end Game 7 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals and the Steelheads' season at Allen Events Center, a 3-2 final on Wednesday night.

The Americans move on to the second round to face the Missouri Mavericks.

Desrosiers made 39 saves in the game, including the first five of the extra session, before the sharp-angled attempt bounced off a body in front and rolled to the back of the net for King's third goal of the series.

The Steelheads entered the third period with a 2-1 lead after a busy middle frame. Kruise Reddick opened the scoring at 5:45 of the second period with his second goal of the series. Tommy Fallen, who collected six points in the series, fired a shot from the top of the left circle that bounced in and out of Riley Gill's glove. Reddick pounced on the rebound and fired through a crowd to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead for the fifth time in the series.

As they did in Game 6, the Americans answered right back. Chad Costello carried the puck over the blue line and executed a give-and-go with Dave Makowski at the right-wing boards. That opened space in the high slot for Costello to snap home his first of the series and tie the score just 29 seconds after Reddick's tally.

Andrew Carroll put Idaho back in front at 8:27 of the second with a shot from the slot off an Americans' turnover following good forecheck work by Joe Basaraba. It was Carroll's first of the post-season.

Dave Makowski's power play goal at 7:06 of the third tied the score, his second power play goal in the series. With a blast from the right point, the puck zipped through a screen and past Desrosiers' glove to tie the game 2-2.

The Steelheads' penalty kill was, however, a major factor in the game reaching overtime. Late in the second period, with the Steelheads ahead 2-1, Andrew Carroll was called for tripping. Just 44 seconds into that kill, the Steelheads were called for another penalty when Basaraba put the puck over the glass. For 1:16 of 5-on-3 penalty-killing, the Steelheads faced down an Americans firing squad with two shots hitting the post and Desrosiers making several acrobatic saves as Jake Rutt, Zach Bell, and Shawn Boutin battled in front to secure the lead after 40 minutes.

The Steelheads finish their playoff run with Joe Basaraba and Carson McMillan tying for the team lead with seven points in the seven games. Veteran Andrew Carroll was a plus-4 in the series. Rookie Philippe Desrosiers finished his first playoff action with a .923 save percentage.

The Steelheads were 38-24-10 in the regular season and finished in second place in the West Division.

PLAY OF THE GAME:

After a hard-fought, quick-paced skill series, an overtime game can likely be decided by a greasy goal. That's how Game 7 was decided, with the Americans bringing heavy pressure right from the drop of the puck in overtime and getting the first six shots of the extra session. That sixth shot from the corner, just above the goal line, was the winner from Tristan King that ended the series.
