Brampton Steelheads News Release
Coming off of two tough losses at the hands of the Owen Sound Attack and the Erie Otters, the Mississauga Steelheads have a busy week ahead to get themselves back in the win column. The Steelheads were able to score seven goals in two games, despite the losses, and with added firepower of Alan Lyszczarczyk who was acquired earlier this week from the Owen Sound Attack, the Steelheads are hoping to keep that offensive pressure throughout the week with three games in four nights.
Starting their week off with back-to-back games against the division leading Niagara IceDogs (9-4-2-0), the Steelheads (8-4-2-0) travel Niagara on Thursday and then head back home for on Friday for their second match against the IceDogs. The Steelheads end off the weekend with another home match up against the Kingston Frontenacs (4-11-1-0) who are looking to get out of the basement in the East Division.
Niagara IceDogs
Sitting atop the central division, the Niagara IceDogs have the second most goals for in the league. Riding a four game win streak coming into Thursday's game, the IceDogs are looking to continue their hot streak in their back-to-back series against the Steelheads. Splitting their season series 1-1 so far, the Steelheads look to make it 3-1 and overtake the IceDogs at the top of the division.
Kingston Frontenacs
With the second worst goal differential in the league, the Frontenacs are at the bottom of the East division standings with a 4-11-1-0 record. Coming off of two straight losses, both the Steelheads and Frontenacs are looking to find their rhythm again. In one game this season, the Steelheads beat the Frontenacs 4-1 and hope to keep that trend going in Sunday's game.
Players to Watch
Owen Tippett - With six points in his last three games, Tippett has 14 points in eight games heading into this weekend. Only being held of the score sheet once this season, Tippett seems to generate offense every time the puck touches his stick. Whether on the powerplay, at even strength, or shorthanded, with his explosive speed and quick release, Tippett creates his own opportunities to score.
Akil Thomas - In a five-way tie for third place in league scoring, Thomas is on pace to blow his last season's point total away. Finishing the 2017-2018 season with 81 points, Thomas is on pace to score over 100 points this season. With three games this season with four or more points, the LA Kings prospect has the ability to change the momentum of a game with his offensive prowess.
Brett Neumann - The 2015 OHL draft pick is in his fifth season in the OHL and it's looking to be his best. With a previous season high of 42 points, Neumann already has 19 points in 16 games this season and is on track to almost double his previous high. The OHL veteran is hoping his consistent scoring can lift his Frontenacs from the bottom of their division.
