Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads welcomed a special guest to the Paramount Fine Foods Centre on November 18. Indian superstar Dr. Satinder Sartaaj made his way to the arena to meet the Steelheads before their road trip to Niagara.
Steelheads goaltender Roman Basran and the rest of the team greeted Dr. Sartaaj and presented him with a Steelheads jacket, puck, and more. Dr. Sartaaj was very grateful for the gift and loved the team's enthusiasm during the meeting. Basran, too, was excited to meet the singer, poet, and movie star.
"It was an honour meeting Satinder." Basran said of the meeting, "He is a very accomplished musician."
Dr. Sartaaj also had the chance to walk on the Steelheads' ice with Basran. Though Basran was born in Canada, the Vancouver native has Indian ancestry and is fourth-generation Canadian. While on the ice, Dr. Sartaaj and Barsan discussed what it means to represent their heritage on such a prominent stage.
"My family has been in Canada since the early 1920s and are Indo-Canadian pioneers." Basran said, "Being from an Indo-Canadian family, my family didn't know a lot about hockey until I started going to Canucks games where I would watch [Roberto] Luongo. He inspired me to become a goaltender. I am very thankful for my grandfather for taking me to those games."
Dr. Sartaaj loved having the opportunity to meet the Steelheads and hopes to return to see a game shortly. "I'm wishing all the success to the Mississauga Steelheads," the singer said, "They already are the winners." Dr. Sartaaj is a popular singer, songwriter, actor, and poet from India and is currently on the Canadian leg of his Rejuvenation Tour. The artist performed at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre on Saturday, November 20, to a sold-out crowd. He mentioned he would like to return when he is back in Mississauga and drop the ceremonial puck.
