STEELHEADS: Game Day Storylines- at Allen

December 23, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Steel Reel The Steelheads look to bounce back from their most lopsided loss of the season, a 6-0 shutout loss to the Allen Americans on Thursday night. On Friday the Steelheads will meet the Americans again for their final contest before the Christmas break. Idaho sits fourth in the Mountain Division, two points back of the Americans with three games in hand.

Chad Costello scored twice, along with an assist, and Spencer Asuchak also had a three point night for Allen. Riley Gill stopped 33 shots for his league-leading fourth shutout of the season, while Philippe Desrosiers stopped 30 of 36 shots in a losing effort. The Steelheads were shutout for just the second time this season, and first time since their second contest of the season. Their best opportunities came with Joe Basaraba's shot off the post in the second period and one of David Glen's six shots late in the third period.

Man Power ... The Americans owned both sides of the special teams game on Thursday night, twice capitalizing on the power play and adding a Bryan Moore short-handed goal as well. Moore's tally was the fourth short-handed goal given up by the Steelheads this season, extending Moore's goal-scoring streak to four games. The Americans now have ten power play goals in their last four contests, as well as short-handed goals in back-to-back games.

Point-Per-Game People ...

Despite a quiet night on Thursday, several Steelheads are still performing at a point-per-game pace in recent weeks. Anthony Luciani has four goals and eight points in his last seven games heading into Friday's rematch. Captain Jefferson Dahl has two goals and six points in his last six contests.

Slow Costello... Americans' captain Chad Costello continues to be the hottest player in the ECHL, now with points in 11 straight games and in 20 of his last 21 outings. Costello's two goals last night were his tenth and 11th in the past ten games, and the 200th and 201st of his professional career. Costello has 15 goals and 35 points in his last 21 contests, extending his league-lead to 47 points.

Road Construction... The Steelheads look to snap a four-game winless streak on the road (0-3-1), their last win away from CenturyLink Arena coming on November 19th in Norfolk. Idaho is 4-6-2 away from CenturyLink Arena, compared to an 11-4-1 record in downtown Boise. Idaho has a minus-11 goal differential on the road this year.
