
Steelheads Derek Laxdal To Coach Dallas Stars Prospects

BOISE, Idaho - The Dallas Stars have selected Idaho Steelheads Coach Derek Laxdal to head up their coaching staff for their National Hockey League's prospects camp beginning Friday. The Idaho Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars.
Stars prospects will be participating in the 2008 NHL Prospects Tournament from September 13 - 17 in Traverse City, Michigan. The six-day round robin tournament will feature prospects from Dallas, the Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, Atlanta Thrashers, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning. The championship game will be held on September 17.
Potentially, Dallas could assign up to four players from the prospects team to the Steelheads roster for the upcoming 2008-09 campaign.
Following the Prospects Tournament, Coach Laxdal will attend the Stars main camp at their practice facility in Frisco, Texas beginning Sept. 18 and will coach Dallas' rookie exhibition game in St. Louis on the 23rd versus the St. Louis Blues rookie team.
Laxdal will return to Idaho on Sept. 24 to prepare for the Steelheads training camp which begins the first week of October.
