RoadRunners Build Defense With Dmytruk, Campbell

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that rookie defensemen Rob Dmytruk and T.J. Campbell have each agreed to terms on a contract for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

Dmytruk, 25, returns to the RoadRunners for his first full season after signing with the club on March 26. The Scarborough, Ontario native collected three assists and two penalty minutes during the final six games of the regular season. Prior to his signing, Dmytruk completed a five-year collegiate career at Wilfird Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. He led all Golden Hawks' defensemen in scoring in 2007-08 for the second consecutive season with seven goals and 23 points in 28 games. Dmytruk was selected as a two-time Ontario University Athletes First Team All Star in both 2007 and 2008. He recorded 28 goals, 54 assists, and 82 points in 131 career games at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Campbell, 25, also begins his first full professional season after completing a four-year collegiate career in 2007-08 at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. Campbell served as Captain of the Nanooks during his senior season and recorded two goals, six points, and 36 penalty minutes in 33 games. The Fort McMurray, Alberta native signed a professional contract with the Utah Grizzlies on March 19 and appeared in six regular season games and two Kelly Cup Playoff games while recording four penalty minutes. Campbell registered three goals, 15 assists, 18 points, and 192 penalty minutes in 139 career games at the University of Alaska.

Dmytruk and Campbell join a RoadRunners roster that already includes forwards Mitch Carefoot, Wes Clark, Andrew Desjardins, Bryan Esner, Gino Guyer, James McEwan, Peder Skinner and Chris Stevens; defenseman Matt Burke, Bryan Nathe, and Tom Sawatske; and goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo.

Phoenix will play a two-game pre-season series against the Florida Everblades Oct. 10-11 at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.

The RoadRunners open their fourth ECHL season Oct. 17 when they welcome the Victoria Salmon Kings to US Airways Center for a three-game Opening Weekend series.
