Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads are proud to announce the new leadership group for the 2023-24 season, which includes captain Chas Sharpe, and alternate captain Angus MacDonell.
Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond quoted on the latest appointments. "Chas Sharpe has been with us for five years and has really grown as a player and as a person. He's earned the respect of his teammates and coaches. We all believe Sharpie is the right guy to lead this group and we couldn't be happier to announce his captaincy. Angus MacDonell will ride alongside Sharpie as part of the leadership group and wear the 'A'. Macker loves the game and competes hard every day. He personifies what a hockey player and leader should look and act like."
Selected in the third round (60th overall) of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, captain Chas Sharpe has been a steady force on the back end for the Steelheads over the past four years. The Orillia-native has played in 155 games wearing the Blue and White, totaling 63 points (13G, 50A). Sharpe has grown in the Steelheads organization and has become a leader both on and off the ice, taking part in numerous community initiatives around the city of Mississauga.
Chas Sharpe talked about what it means to him to be named captain of the Steelheads. "It's truly an honour to be named captain of the Steelheads, and a leader of this young group. We have such a special team this year and I'm just happy I will be able to help the young kids grow. It's going to be a fun year for the fans and everyone involved with the Steelheads organization."
Alternate captain Angus MacDonell was acquired by the Steelheads in a trade with the Sarnia Sting on January 7, 2023 and was drafted 189th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2023 NHL Draft this past summer. MacDonell has skated in 31 games for the Steelheads, securing 24 points (17G, 7A). The 5'10'' centreman has consistently played with an edge, totaling 134 penalty minutes in 120 career OHL games.
"We have a special group and can do a lot this year. We are young and fierce and I don't think anyone can take us down this year". I'm honoured to help lead this team to its potential."
