Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are proud to be teaming up with the Phillipsburg High School Women's Basketball Team and Alumni for their Second Annual Round Robin Basketball Tournament benefiting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation. Members of the Steelhawks front office staff, coaches, players, and dance team members will be on hand this Saturday, November 20th, to help raise money for a great cause.
Community and media members are urged to attend the event which begins at 12 pm and runs until about 4 pm at Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey. The five on five tournament, which includes Phillipsburg Alumni from 1960 to current members of the team, will include about 45 players with each game lasting around ten minutes. Referees and staff have all volunteered their valuable time for the event which last year raised over $6,000. With an anticipated attendance of over 400 people, they hope to reach higher a higher level in 2010.
"The mission from the beginning of this expansion franchise was to help out the community in any way we saw feasible," stated Executive Vice President Mike Clark. "Teaming up with Kim Chapman and the rest of the Phillipsburg Women's Basketball team and Alumni was a no-brainer. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is a fantastic charitable organization and we are just happy to be part of the event."
Local area businesses, including the Steelhawks, have donated items for raffle which include everything from Premium tickets to a 2011 Steelhawks game to a New Years Eve stay at a local area hotel. A scholarship will also be set up, which will go to a member of the current basketball team. The rest of the proceeds will go towards the charity.
