Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - With the club's second consecutive Anderson Cup championship and the #1 overall seed in the 2021 Clark Cup Playoffs in hand, the Chicago Steel (36-11-3-2; 77 pts.) face off against the Muskegon Lumberjacks (33-14-2-2; 70 pts.), the second place team in the Eastern Conference, in a two game set at Fox Valley Ice Arena on Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24.

The games highlight Fan Appreciation Weekend presented by Xfinity. The first 250 fans will receive a with Steel puck courtesy of Xfinity, and all fans will have the opportunity to win from hundreds of additional prizes each game.

The Steel became the first indoor team in the state of Illinois to host fans in over a calendar year on March 26 when spectators returned for a celebration of the 2019-2020 Anderson Cup-winning team, culminating in the unveiling of the first Anderson Cup banner in franchise history.

This weekend's games will be the first contests on home ice since the Steel clinched their second straight regular season title with a 3-2 overtime win against the Green Bay Gamblers on April 17.

This season, the Steel set the franchise record for number of goals scored in a single season with 254, averaging 4.88 goals per game, the most in the USHL. To pass the 2019-2020 Chicago Steel who averaged 4.94 goals per game for the highest average in league history, the Steel would have to score 13 goals over the final two contests of the season. This year, the club has scored six or more goals in 16 games.

Forward Sean Farrell has shattered both franchise and USHL records while Matt Coronato has re-written the Steel record book for goal scorers.

Farrell, selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the fourth round (#124 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, currently owns the Steel franchise records for single season assists (65) and points (94) as well as career marks for both assists (106) and points (150) in a Steel sweater. The Harvard University-bound skater ranks first in USHL history for helpers in a single season.

Coronato, listed as an 'A'-level prospect for the 2021 NHL Draft according to NHL Central Scouting, sits atop the Steel goal-scoring list for both single season (46) and career (64) markers.

The Lumberjacks, securely in second place in the Eastern Conference, are the only team in the USHL with a winning record against the Steel, 5-3-0-0, in eight meetings between the clubs this season.

Outside of four Steel players at the top of the USHL scoring race, the Lumberjacks account for the next two top point-getters. Forward Danil Gushchin leads his team with 61 points (29G, 32A) while Cam Berg ranks second among Lumberjacks skaters with 58 points (27G, 31A). The two forwards have combined for 32 points in eight games against the Steel this season.

The Steel will host either the Dubuque Fighting Saints or Team USA (U17) in the best-of-three Eastern Conference Semifinals at Fox Valley Ice Arena when the 2021 Clark Cup Playoffs begin with Game 1 on Friday, April 30. Game 2 is set for Saturday, May 1 while Game 3, if necessary, will be played on Sunday, May 2. All three puck drops are scheduled for 7:05 pm CT and the games will be presented by River Front Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.
