Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
Matching a Bad Mark: Following their 56-49 loss in Green Bay on Saturday night, the Steamwheelers are now embroiled in the third three-game losing streak in franchise history. The first of the three began on May 25, 2002 with a 57-38 loss in Wichita, and was followed by home defeats to Peoria and Tennessee Valley. Last year Quad City was 6-1 when it traveled to San Diego, only to be upset 62-52 by the Riptide. That defeat was followed by a one-point loss in Louisville and then a seven-point defeat at home against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
On each of the previous occasions, the âWheelers snapped their losing streaks with a tough road win, but with two consecutive home games on the schedule, they will be looking to alter that trend this weekend and avoid the franchise's first ever four-game losing streak.
Looking to Start Over Again: With the loss to Green Bay, the Steamwheelers are now below .500 at the latest point of the year in franchise history. The only other time that the âWheelers had ever been below .500 was in 2003 when they started the season with a 0-2 mark.
Duo for Triple-Digits: For the first time this season, the Steamwheelers had multiple receivers eclipse the 100-yard mark as Tim Dodge caught eight balls for a game-high 113 yards and Travis Burns added eight catches for 101 and two scores. It was the second time that each Dodge and Burns, who rank one-two on the team respectively in receiving yards on the season, had gone over the century mark this year.
In 2004, the âWheelers had multiple receivers eclipse the 100-yard plateau in the same game four times. Dodge and Jeff Hewitt each had more than 100 yards in the season opener against Manchester, the Week 8 loss in San Diego, the Week 11 win in Green Bay and the regular season finale against Louisville.
Forbes Moves One Pick Closer: With his second quarter interception of Johnny Turman, Matt Forbes is now tied for second in the af2 with six interceptions on the season. He is also in second place on the team's all-time interceptions list with 17 during his three year with Quad City. The only player with more picks as a member of the âWheelers is Clarence Thompson who tallied 20 interceptions, during the first two years of af2.
Second Time Around: This will be the last of two meetings on the year against the Yard Dawgz. It is also the second of seven season, home-and-home series that the Steamwheelers will complete. Of those seven series, the âWheelers have played the first leg in six of them, compiling a 3-3 record, compared to an 0-1 mark, thanks to a 63-55 loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at home two weeks ago, the second time around.
Lat year the âWheelers played six teams twice, going 4-2 the first time through and 3-3 during the return legs.
