Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: May 24, 2005 – arenafootball2 announced their weekly awards for Week 8 action and Rio Grande Valley Dorados defensive specialist Norman Mason earned ADT Defensive Player of the Week honors. Mason, a 5'10 185-pound native of Paducah, Kentucky, was playing in his first game with the Dorados Saturday and helped preserve the Dorados 52-49 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with a pair of interceptions and a franchise single-game best 12 tackles (all solo). The 12 tackles ranks tied as the second highest amount of tackles by an individual in the af2 this season. Mason's second interception came with just under ten seconds remaining in regulation from his own endzone to hold off Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's comeback attempt. The fifth year pro began the season with the South Georgia Wildcats and played two games prior to being released. Rio Grande Valley, facing injuries with their defensive personnel, were assigned Mason on Thursday and he had only been in the Valley for three days before his standout night.

The honor is the second time he has received the award. Mason last earned the honor in Week 2 of the 2003 season as a member of the Louisville Fire. He is the first Dorado to earn the honor this season and the fourth overall. Last season, Karleton Thomas received ADT Defensive Player of the Game in Week 1 and Eddie Moten received the same honor for Week 14 and 18. Media members seeking an interview with Mason and/or Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-843-5656.

The Dorados next home game will be June 11th, as the Dorados host the Tulsa Talons at Chase Field inside the Dodge Arena. Individual tickets for the game and all other home games are already on sale. Additional info can also be found by visiting the Dorados online at www.doradosfootball.com.
