Steamers, Tobs Suspended at Hicks Field

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers (23-10, 5-2) of the Coastal Plain League announce that their game tonight, Monday, July 9th against the Wilson Tobs (13-22, 4-3) has been suspended due to lightning in the area and the threat of imminent rain.

The game will be continued as part of a suspended game double header at Historic Hicks Field on Friday, July 13th when the Wilson Tobs are scheduled to come back and play the final time in Edenton. First pitch for the resumed game will be at 5:00 PM, with game two beginning roughly 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The resumed game will be nine innings with game two, the originally scheduled game, a seven inning game.

The Steamers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Wilson to play a day game, the only one on the schedule for the Steamers this season. First pitch tomorrow in Wilson is set for 12 PM.

The Edenton Steamers are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
