Tarkenton, White Named Rawlings Coastal Plain League Players of the Week

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced today that Forest City's Stephen Tarkenton was honored as the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Florence's Chad White was named the Rawlings Pitcher of the Week for week six of action (July 2-8).

Tarkenton batted .500 on the week for the Owls, leading the league with 13 hits. In six games, the junior from Francis Marion tallied 2 doubles and 2 home runs, and maintained a .808 on base percentage, good for second in the league. Tarkenton also finished out the week with five RBIs and 21 total bases, the highest mark among hitters.

On the bump, White was terrific in relief, making two appearances for the RedWolves. The 6-1, 195-pound sophomore righty from Presbyterian threw six innings over the week without yielding a hit, earning a perfect 0.00 ERA and adding a save. White walked just three batters posting a solid .500 WHIP, while punching out 10, tying him for the league-lead.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Further more,the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 52 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
