Tarkenton Named Rawlings CPL Player of the Week

Forest City, NC- Forest City Owls third baseman Stephen Tarkenton was named the Rawlings' Coastal Plain League Player of the Week from July 2-July 8. The Francis Marion product batted .500 (11-for-22) with two doubles, two home runs, and five runs batted in. Tarkenton also sported an .808 on-base percentage for the week.
Tarkenton is the second Owl to win a weekly award this season. Ryan Tezak was named the Rawlings' CPL Pitcher of the Week for the third week of the season. Tarkenton's first two home runs of the season came within a span of four games. He hit a solo shot as part of a 6-2 Forest City win in Thomasville on July 4th. Tarkenton followed that up with a three-run blast in a 9-4 loss to Columbia on Saturday night. Over the past 32 games, Tarkenton is hitting .450 (36-for-80).

The Forest City Owls are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 52 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
